Abstract
The article deals with the image of the hero of the «new drama» of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in comparison with the traditionalist drama. Based on the material of Russian drama of the 19th century, it is proved that the hero of the «new drama» is the original type of hero, not only an actant, and therefore violates the basic dramatic rules.
