Descriptions in «The Island of the Day Before» and Painting of the XX Century

Abstract

As a postmodernist writer, U. Eco in his novel «The Island of the Day Before» often refers the reader to various works of art (literary texts, architecture, painting, etc.). The study examines the references in the novel to the works of painting of the XX century, which, on the one hand, make it possible to reveal the forms of existence of one type of art within another, taking into account the peculiarities of the first; on the other hand, they are a means of creating images in a literary text.
