Abstract
The problem of satirical tradition is one of the most urgent in modern literary criticism. Its significance is enhanced in the literature of different countries at the beginning of the 20th century, during the period of rethinking the experience of previous aesthetic systems and the search for methods for creating the image of a hero, relevant to the cultural and historical era. The article examines the influence of the romantic tradition of E. T. A. Hoffmann in F. Salten's bestiary novel "The Florentine Dog". Comparison of the works of authors distant in time made it possible to identify significant similar phenomena, as well as to establish the embodiment of Hoffmann's satire in the development of the problems of dehumanization of human relations and human freedom in F. Salten's novel.
