Abstract
This article analyzes the gastronomic theme in the stories of A. P. Chekhov «Snack», «About frailty», «Siren», «Ariadna» in connection with the themes of gluttony, decomposition, bureaucracy, love and death. The study allowed to identify numerous details in the image of food and their role in the text, as well as to conclude that the gastronomic theme is reflected in the descriptions of food, in the names and subtitles, in the names and characteristics of the characters, in the plot organization of the writer’s works.
